The slalom season is fast approaching with the first races only a month away.
I will as usual be running weekly slalom training on the outdoor pool. Nights will vary to allow as many paddlers to attend as possible. Below is the first couple of months, dates and times are subject to change due to other commitments but I will send out details if this happens. These details will also be on the website and on the slalom notice board at the club.
In addition I intend to run a number of beginner sessions to get anyone interested started in slalom. Beginners race in Division 4, on promotion they move to Division 3 and may attend the improvers sessions. Prior to a suitable event there will be one or more pool session followed by training and racing at the weekend at the event.
We have a number of modern boats and paddlers which will be available for pool sessions and at events a club coach is attending. Paddlers are expected to get their own equipment once they reach Division 2.
Slalom is a great way to get used to moving water (to start with) and white water (later on), it will help improve your balance, paddling skills and boat control as well as being fun and very sociable.
It’s the KKC short course Div 4 slalom on the outdoor pool on Sunday 6th March, you do not need any experience and it would be great to see as many KKC paddlers giving it a go as possible. I’ll be running a session the Monday before on the outdoor pool from 6-7 so come and have a try.
If you have any questions don’t hesitate to get in touch with me (Duncan Berriman), Sue Burgess or talk to any of our existing slalom paddlers.
