This trip is suitable for all. This is the weekend of the club presentation evening so lets make it a full on weekend of activity and use some of our new kit.
It will be on the flat water of the River Derwent (North East of York), however it includes a couple of ‘slide down’ weirs. These are very easy to either paddle or portage around. Depending on conditions and access/egress opportunities we will paddle between Malton, Kirkham, Howsham and Stamford Bridge. Therefore there will be a variety of places and distances that people can complete.
The intention is to meet at the clubhouse at 0830 hours on Sunday 4th December. We will either take the trailer and/or load cars depending on the numbers.
Please bring your own equipment if suitable but remember the club has a good selection of equipment.
Ideally you will have personal insulation (thermal underwear, NOT rash vests as they provide little insulation) and appropriate footwear
It is now autumn so all participants will need to dress up warm and bring a packed lunch including a warm drink. As with any out door activity the weather both on the day and in the lead up can make a huge difference to the prevailing conditions and what the final plan will be.
Along most of the river there is a footpath and it easy for spectators to get some photo opportunities.
There will be a number of qualified and experienced paddlers helping out so you can confidently and safely experience the excitement of real river canoeing.
We should be back in Hull for around 4 pm latest to unpack and re store all the kit.
