I have received no information from Glanford and Scunthorpe Canoe Club nor can I find any information on their website but I am assuming that the race will go ahead next Sunday based at their club house in Brigg in the grounds of the The Ancholme Leisure Centre, Scawby Brook, Brigg, North Lincolnshire, DN20 9JH.
Based on previous years there would be registration from 10:30 with the races starting between 12:00 and 12:15. Entry fees are expected to be £5.00 for seniors less for juniors.
There will be a Class C Lightning Class of 2 miles for U10 and U12 paddlers. We have six Lightning racers available at the club. If you are paddling this race and are not a BCU member then I will give you a KIN number to register with.
There will be the Class A divisional races starting with division 9 at 4 miles around the island – we have racing boats and GP boats available. To enter these races you need to have a BCU membership (Not just KKC membership) unless you are U18 in which case I can give you a KIN number to register with.
There will be a ‘Fun race’ for both adults and juniors in any boat including open canoes. No BCU membership is required. It will be around the island also at 4 miles.
Remember that as you are representing KKC you will not pay any hire charges for our kit (Boat, BA, paddle, spray deck if required).
This is a very busy weekend with the HCA Event at Tanfield on the Saturday and the Polo in London on both Saturday and Sunday. Unfortunately I will not be able to attend at Brigg but if you give me an email (medina180@msn.com) I will arrange a time on either Friday or Saturday when you can collect kit from our club house at Albert Avenue.
Remember the ‘round the island’ races are just that and it is four miles and there is no footpath etc for the second half of the course – check Google maps – so you need a commitment to finish.
I hope to be back on my feet early next week and be able to drive again!
