Whether you’re brand new to paddling or returning after a break, here are the most common questions we get — all in one place.

Do I need my own equipment?

Not at all! Kingston Kayak Club provides all the paddling-specific equipment you’ll need. For indoor sessions, just bring your usual swimwear. For outdoor sessions, comfy base layers like joggers are perfect.

What should I wear?

Swimwear is great for indoor paddling. For outdoor sessions, jogging-style base layers will keep you comfortable. As you get more involved, wetsuit shorts are a good next step.

Can beginners join?

Absolutely! Our Monday sessions are perfect for complete beginners. We have qualified instructors ready to teach you everything you need to know.

Do I need to book in advance?

You can turn up at the Clubhouse, but to avoid disappointment, we recommend booking online:

Is it safe?

Yes — your safety is our top priority. All sessions are led by experienced and qualified instructors. Our main venue, Albert Avenue Pools, is ideal for learning and developing your paddling skills.

How much does it cost?

We aim to keep our prices affordable for everyone:

  • Outdoor sessions: Juniors £5.50 | Seniors £6.25

  • Indoor sessions: Juniors £6.70 | Seniors £8.30

After your first 3 sessions, we ask you to join the club:

  • Junior Membership: £23

  • Senior Membership: £37

  • Family Membership: £45
    Members save £2 on every session and gain access to additional benefits.

Is it just for kids?

Not at all! We run sessions for both juniors and adults — whether you’re a complete beginner or looking to develop advanced skills.

Do you run sessions all year round?

Yes! We operate year-round, both indoors and outdoors — plus we organise trips and events at other locations too.

Are your instructors qualified?

Yes — all our coaches are fully qualified and highly experienced. They’re passionate about helping you enjoy and progress in paddlesport.

What types of paddling do you offer?

We offer a wide range of activities including:

  • Kayaking

  • Canoeing

  • SUP (Stand-Up Paddleboarding)

  • Canoe Polo

  • Canoe Slalom

  • Canoe Marathon
    We also run flat water and whitewater trips, and hold an annual club camping weekend!

Can I try before I commit?

Yes — your first 3 sessions are on a pay-as-you-go basis. After that, we ask you to become a club member.

Do you run holiday courses?

Not currently. Instead, our coaching is bespoke and tailored to each paddler’s individual needs.
