Kingston Kayak Club organise two marathons as part of the British Canoeing Hasler Race Series.
This year they are the Derwent Mike Jones Memorial race to be held on Sunday 7 June 2015 and the Wolfreton Marathon to be held on Sunday 4 October 2015.
The Derwent Mike Jones Memorial race will be held at Barmby on the Marsh near Howden. The Race is named in honour of Dr Mike Jones QGM who was a respected Yorkshire paddler in both slalom and exploration. Mike took part in and led expeditions to the Blue Nile and the Dudh Kosi (The river that starts on Mount Everest). Tragically Mike lost his life in 1978 when trying to save a fellow paddler on the Braldu River in Pakistan. It was for this action that he was posthumously awarded the Queen’s Gallantry Medal (QGM). Mike’s family supported this race for many years when it was held on the River Ouse in York.

The Wolfreton Marathon will be held of Frodingham Wharf on the Driffield Navighation near Driffield. The name of the race comes from Wolfreton School in East Yorkshire where Wolfreton School Canoe Club was formed which eventually formed the basis of Kingston Kayak Club.
