Kingston Slalom Team raced at the National Interclubs on 12th and 13th of September. This was the 25th anniversery event and we were blessed with fabulous weather on the Saturday which turned a bit colder on the Sunday but still remained dry for once. Great team spirit was shown as usual with every paddler being chased down the course via the rest of the team – cheering them on as usual. Saturday night everyone got together for a BBQ and then danced the night away in the Marquee.
Interclubs is the one event of the year were we race as a proper team rather than as individuals with all the results counting to the final result. The best slalom clubs from all over the country come together to represent their region at Cardington each year to see who is best overall.
KKC finished 6th this year which is not bad considering we train on the outdoor pool for a whitewater sport and we have no prem paddlers in the club at present. We were only 10 points off 3rd which translates to us all finishing just one place higher in our individual runs.
Some paddlers had to paddle out of class to fill those places where we don’t have representation in the correct division or discipline so don’t be suprised in the results if you see women paddling as men or a Div2/3 paddling as a prem.
