The annual Dinghy Cruise from Hempholme to Driffield and back will take place on May Day, 4th May 2009.
As usual it will start at 10am at Bethell’s Bridge.
All dinghies, canoes, kayaks and any similar small craft are welcome.
This event is organised by the Driffield Navigation Amenities Association.
They do not require bookings or numbers for this trip – just turn up on the day.
The total distance from Bethells Bridge to Driffield is 6 1/4 miles, giving a total distance of 12 1/2 miles for the reurn journey.
There are several locks on the canal which can be portaged or boats can go through the locks as in previous years.
It is hoped by the DNAA that Wansford Lock will be fully restored and operational by May Day.
It is possible to do the trip one way (in either direction).
Alternatively, canoes & kayaks have paddled from North Frodingham in previous years.
Picnic lunch at Driffield (nearby pubs open too!)
Paddlers should be able to cope with the distance, portaging and water conditions (can be windy!)
